Positioning two cam buckles perpendicular to one another could allow a single piece of webbing to wrap an object from four sides. A rod was considered to direct and support the change in angle. Early prototypes quickly proved threading webbing through the rod was terribly inefficient leading to the development of the 45 degree fin.
